What next?

By now, the news of Dave's untimely death has spread, and we have shared in grief together. We remember an exceptional man whose impact was greater than he ever knew, now at peace with the Jesus he so loved. But for those of us left behind, what next?

In a time when organised faith centres are diminishing, where abuse scandals are rife and where society is demanding accountability, where does The Ordinary Office fit in?

The good news is, I have some good people around me, supporting me to find a way forward. For now, the prayers will continue as much as I am able, and I will be using some of your kind donations to explore social media management tools for a sustainable way to both maintain our presence on Dave's mission ground,  while also expanding to other sites. I feel so strongly, as did Dave, that we are called to be a light in the darkness. So I am to continue shining the light of our prayers wherever I can.

Dave was so good at crafting video services, and I would be doing everyone a disservice if I tried to continue them. My skills lie elsewhere, which is what made Dave and I such a good team. I hope to bring regular blogging to The Ordinary Office, as I used to do on my deconstructing church website. I am open to hosting the voices of others who feel called to share important messages, a more collective approach if you will. But I also recognise there are other organisations contributing in the same space, and I would encourage you to access their content should you miss ours.

So, please do continue to bear with me. Hunkering down for winter is a daunting prospect sometimes, but fallow times bring regrowth in the end. The Ordinary Office will regrow. Let us all have a blessed Christmas, and begin the next chapter of our journey in the New Year. Peace be with you all.

I have just read this sad news. Please accept my condolences. Dave had a mission which often wound people up but that was due to his passion for justice which was always evident. I learnt much from him and An Ordinary Office. Even if I did not always agree with him, I learnt to appreciate the perspective he stood for and promoted. May he rest in peace. Amen.
